There are five regular classrooms within the school, the class sizes averaging between twelve to fourteen students. In addition to the regular classrooms, Excelsior School has a room which allows for more individualized instruction. A school library provides students with computer access as well as supervised internet access. A crafts/home economics room offers the student a variety of arts and crafts options as well as sewing and cooking to enhance independent living skills. A greenhouse offers students the opportunity to learn horticulture. In 1999, Excelsior School began a year round curriculum. The model selected will provide education instruction for the residents on a four day per week schedule, allowing treatment groups and socialization activities to occur on the fifth day for students. This will also allow education and treatment staff the ability to attend multi-disciplinary team meetings, individual education plan meetings and other collaborative meetings. Additional education possibilities (as appropriate to the resident) exist through Spokane Public Schools, Spokane Skills Center, the Institute for Extended Learning, and Spokane Falls Community College.
