Excelsior accepts boys with a broad range of behavior problems. Included among the behaviors are chronic runaway, substance abuse, delinquency and pre-delinquency, inability to function within the family setting, and inability to function in the public school system. The campus setting provides an environment that stresses safety, respect, and individualized attention. Residents live in a group setting, working through a "phased program" which rewards responsible behavior with various campus or community privileges. Skilled professional staff build trusting relationships with the residents while offering close supervision and counseling. Healthy recreational and leisure time activities are integrated within the total program via on campus and community resources. Mission Statement Excelsior Youth Center is organized to operate and administer programs designed for the rehabilitation of youth who evidence the need for structured supervision, professional counseling, and training for social and emotional growth. The organization is committed to excellence in the care, treatment, and education of emotionally impaired children and adolescents.

Excelsior Youth Center is a private, non profit agency, located in a
residential neighborhood on Spokane's north-side. The location for
Excelsior includes a thirty-four acre area which includes three residential
treatment units for extended care treatment, one intensive inpatient
chemical dependency treatment unit, a recovery house chemical
dependency treatment unit, Excelsior on-grounds School, nursing/medical
unit, administrative offices, gymnasium, playgrounds, forested area, and swimming pool.
