Throughout the
course of placement, residents will receive individual counseling and
group therapy focused on particular areas of concern; such as drug and
alcohol education, sexual abuse and victimization, self esteem, anger
management, and refusal skills. Excelsior strives to create a
environment culturally sensitive to all adolescents and families involved
in the program. Excelsior works with families and/or placing
agencies to connect youth with their future and their return to the
community.
Assessment
Individual therapy
Group therapy facilitated by the group life
counselors, and other team professionals.
Specialized therapy groups focused on particular
presenting problems or issues such as drug and alcohol education and treatment, Children of
Alcoholics group, sexual abuse and victimization, self-esteem, anger
management and refusal skills, sexual offender treatment, emancipation
and life-skills training.
On-campus AA and Al-Anon meetings, COA, drug and alcohol education
and treatment.
Sex-Education, HIV/AIDS prevention education is provided through the
curriculum through group life staff and
by the Chemical Dependency Staff.
Family counseling is provided as part of each
client's treatment plan. Family members are strongly encouraged to
participate in planning and treatment unless legal sanctions prohibit
contact.
